Shane with his new teddy bear

Shane loves watching Ayda play!

Ayda, our german shepherd, runs around outside, biting her toys, acting nuts - - - and Shane just loves it! As obvious by these pics.... :)

Happy Friday!

There is a 'first' for everything....

and yesterday for Shane, there were THREE!

I have some time today, so here's a lengthy update: :)

Yesterday was the first time Shane got his blood drawn - just routine, nothing is wrong, his Dr. just wanted to test his iron, lead levels, a normal CBC. :( :( :( (At 9 months of age, the heel and finger stick don't do the trick. And supposedly, those hurt worse anyway... more nerve endings and such.) Well, at least they attempted to draw his bloood. The tech tells me... "ok, Mom hold his arm out straight and even pull it out a little, then with your other hand, support underneath his elbow so he can't move his arm at all. (oh, and hold him on your lap, facing forward, and as still as possible) Sure, no problem. (geez)
She sticks him, Shane starts crying, then she pokes around, looking for the vein, b/c Shane moved with such strength that I totally didn't expect, and she lost it. She's moving the damn needle to and fro, I can see it underneath his skin, and I'm thinking "Damn lady, ADULTS hate that, let alone a baby, so pull the needle out and let's move on!" She decides to move to the other arm. (ugh?!) So same thing on that side. She finds a vein that seems ok, I have my death grip on him, and another POKE. He knew it was coming this time, so he REALLY let out a scream. (No, I wasn't crying - - - yet) SAME THING. She loses the vein and moves the needle around, looking for it. Shane throws his head back and looks at me, blue eyes all watery, little face all red, and my heart just broke. Of course. Finally I say, "this isn't working, we need to stick his heel or his finger." She agrees and says "I should have done that to begin with, but I felt two good veins and thought we could do it" Sounds reasonable; I wasn't angry with her, just upset for Shane. (those mothers that give death stares or curse out techs, Dr's, or nurses, for doing their jobs, I never understood that. It is what it is. They aren't purposely torturing your child. Mind over matter. Logic over emotion.) That being said.... I did have a quick daydream about grabbing a needle and sticking her three times.
In the eyeball. ;) j/k
Anyway...... the poor kid had a cottonball and tape on each arm where he got stuck. Then she pricked his little finger and started squeezing blood out into a collection tube. He hated the stick, but after that, she squeezed his finger for 2 minutes and he didn't make a peep. I sang to him and he just laid on my lap like... "whatever. i'm not gonna fight you two broads anymore"
So we left. His arms bandaged and his little middle finger bandaged. It was appropriate really - all this tape on his middle finger, made it stand out and stick up.... ;)

BUT..... then we went to surprise and see his Grandma at her work. With his little "I had a blood test today" sticker on his shirt that the tech gave him. When we left there, he WAVED bye-bye to Grandma! It was pointed towards the ground, but it was a wave. Later when he saw his Grandpa, he waved bye-bye to him, too, and this time it was straight up, facing him, and right when he was at the front door, leaving. Such a small thing, really. A wave good-bye. But when your kid does it, its magic.

AND, lastly, at Shane's 9 month checkup, the Dr said he could start eating table food. So for lunch yesterday, he had spaghetti and HALF of a meatball! He loved it and said 'ummmm' after each bite. He is SUCH a boy.
Well, he is 'yelling' at me from his walker now.... my time is up. ;)
Love you all,
Starlet xo

p.s. when we were driving home yesterday, after all our errands were done, Shane was asleep in his car seat. I looked at him in my rear-view and happened to glance at his little sticker on his shirt. My poor little boy.... then, tears were streaming down my face. A delayed reaction, I guess... :)

Shane's First Visit to the Zoo!

We took Shane to the LA Zoo yesterday, it was a lot of fun! Mostly he pointed at the bigger animals, didn't really notice the smaller ones, and after the giraffes, chimps, deer-like creatures with long thin legs (gazelles, maybe?) and red apes (awesome new habitat) - Shane fell asleep while we went to see the tigers, koalas, and sea lions. My in-laws got us a yearly Zoo pass, so we will be going a lot! Can't wait for the next time!

Long time, no blog....

Hey there,
Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Lots has gone on.
Shane is almost 9 months old, believe it?! We can't! He has 4 lil teeth, all on the bottom, he is walking around in his walker, running over my toes and into my ankles,.... :) He says Da-Da now! He actually said it for the first time on our anniversary, how appropriate!
No 'Ma-Ma' yet... BUT.... that's ok. He's workin on it. ;) Here are some pics from Easter-time. I'll post new ones as soon as I can.
Love you all,
Starlet
